strategy and research to inform the design of interactive whiteboard interfaces for teachers

Summary
My Capstone project was on the integration of technology in elementary schools. Specifically, I looked at the way interactive white boards are currently used in a high-risk elementary school. I developed strategies for effective and innovative use of the boards, and analyzed the current software interface that is provided along with the boards. I also tested a sample lesson that demonstrates my suggested strategy and a new interface designed for ease of use.

Smiling Cross Website

I designed this site for a small startup business that sells Christian products with thier logo. They wanted a colorful and playful site that worked well with their logo. The graphics were designed by another artist and edited by myself. The site owners have made several changes to the site but the bulk of the design was my work. Visit the website.

National Center for Accessibility Site Redesign

I am working on improving the architecture of the site and creating a new design to realign the site with the agency's goal and the users needs. Because this is the National Center on Accessibility, we pay extremely close attention to web accessibilty issues. The NCA's main site and other sites are intended to be examples of exceptional universal design.

Indiana University Bookstore and Varsity Shop

These two websites were designed together as a replacement for the bookstore's outdated site. I created many of the graphics myself, did all of the style sheet and menu design and coding, and continue to do maintenance on the site.

Fridgets

This was a team project that made it into the first round of the 2005 SIGCHI Student Design Competition that was held in Portland, OR in April 2005. The challenge was to design an 'artifical companion' for the elderly. Our solution was Fridgets, interactive digital magnets that could provide entertainment, information, memory assistance and communication functions to a senior citizen. Refrigerators are a place where many people keep photos, reminders, calendars and other objects of value. Fridgets is an information appliance that extends this common use of the refrigerator in a powerful yet simple way. Poster

Big Brothers Big Sisters Data Management

While working at the non-profit organization Big Brothers Big Sisters, I designed and implemented a data management system using MS Access. The system consists of several databases that manage different aspects of the organization. The agency has been using this database for about five years. It is about time for them to get a new system but my system has saved them thousands of dollars over the last five years.Screenshots
